Mamalila Dublin Babywearing Rain Jacket Review

Beth Beaney - the Executive Babywearing Consultant at Love To Be Natural

The Mamalila Dublin Babywearing Rain Jacket is amazing. Think Patagonia quality but with babywearing functionality.

I was a fly on the wall recently at Mamalila HQ when they were coming up with a name for their new babywearing rain jacket.

“How about the Mamalila Rain Tec Pro”, said one.

“No, sounds too techy”, said another.

“Ok, how about the Mamalila Waterproof Jacket?”

“Sounds a bit boring.”

“Fine. What about the Mamallila Eco Shell Rain Jacket.”

“That’s better, we’re getting there…”

“I know!” pipes up someone else. “Let’s call it the Mamalila Dublin!”

“Eh? Why?”

“Cos Dublin is WET AS F… I mean, erm, Dublin is really wet!”

“Perfect!” shouts one.

“Inspired!” says another.

“Outstanding!” says yet another. (There were clearly too many people at this meeting).

A spectacled chap in the corner gives a slight cough whilst pushing his glasses further up his nose with his index finger.

“Dublin’s actually one of the drier places in Ireland”, he says, “and gets pretty much the same amount of rainfall to other European cities, such as London, Paris or Vienna.”

“Nonsense!”

”Balderdash!”

”Lies!”

"Yeah, whatever, NERD!”

“IT’S ALWAYS RAINING IN DUBLIN AND EVERYONE KNOWS IT!”

The nerdy chap in the corner, however, knows what he’s talking about.

If they were basing the name of their rain jacket on how wet somewhere is then they should have called it the Mamalila Mawsynram, which is the wettest place in the world (it’s in India); it’s 20 times wetter than Dublin.

Anyway, this whole story is complete fictionalised nonsense direct from the mind of yours truly, Mamalila simply name their products after European cities (there’s the Dublin, the Berlin, the Vienna etc).

I haven’t found out where ‘Allrounder’ is yet, but I think it could be somewhere in Wales.

Pointing out mildly interesting things to disinterested children. Never gets old.

All this doesn’t detract from the fact that the Mamalila Dublin Raincoat is a pretty amazing jacket.

Now the only German I remember from school is "meine schwester ist dumm und hässlich" which roughly translated (I say roughly, I mean exactly) is "my sister is dumb and ugly."*

But I also know that German things are dead good.

The Dublin is made from an innovative mix of organic cotton and recycled polyester, so it feels amazing. It’s lovely and light and looks awesome too. It has a real contemporary, urban, mackintosh look to it.

And it’s just as ridiculously functional as all the other coats in the Mamalila range - it comes with a maternity insert and babywearing insert which can be used on the front or back.

It’s so well made that it will last you for years after you’ve stopped babywearing.

You’ll be wearing it when you’re on the school run.

Heck, you’ll be wearing it to see them off to uni.

"Here Dave, should we check on that alone child over beside the window?" "Nah mate, let's get these photos done first. Smile Sandra!"

Plus it’s as waterproof as all the other coats in the range; honestly you’ll see going out in the rain as a personal challenge.

As soon as you see even a spit of rain, you’ll don the Mamalila Dublin and race outside, laughing triumphantly and shouting at the top of your voice,

“I CHALLENGE YOU, RAIN, TO EVEN TRY AND GET ME WET, MWAHAHAH! MWAHAHAH!! MWAHAHAH!!!!"

Or, you won’t. S’up to you. Neighbours might think you’re a bit weird.

But then if they think you’re weird already, go for it!

Doesn't need to be raining for you to wear this jacket, it can be blindingly, insanely, almost unbelievably sunny.

Think Patagonia quality but with babywearing functionality.

Comes in either mustard or khaki. Pity it doesn’t come in black, then you could pretend to be a pint of Guinness.

I suppose I should add a few 'technical specifications' for those of you that are interested, so here you go:

- Excellent eco credentials - made from 100% organic cotton and 100% recycled polyester

- Lightweight & easy to carry

- Waterproof to 10,000mm with FC-free coating (Bionic Finish Eco©)

- Windproof & breathable

- Gradually folding baby hood with integrated head support

- Comes with maternity and babywearing inserts.

Maternity & babywearing jacket. Regular outdoor jacket. Allows you to show your pals boring photos with ease. "And this is him wearing another new pair of socks!"

Oh, and it's lovely and fitted with a nice feminine silhouette. This might not sound like much, but you'd be surprised by the number of babywearing coats on the market that fit about as well as an unpegged tent.

Customers love the quality and how lovely and light it is. They also say that it's just the right length.

So that's pretty much it tbh. It's an amazing jacket that will last a long, long time.

I don't want to be all boring and end with "You can see the Mamalila Dublin Rain Jacket Here", so here's a joke about Dublin:

Which country's capital has the fastest growing population? Ireland. Every day it's Dublin.

I'll get my coat.

*My sister is actually highly educated and good looking.

I hope you found this article helpful. Or funny. Either one will do.
